Sadhana Kendra Ashram

This tiny Ashram is nestled in the base of the mighty Himalayan mountains just outside of Dehra Dun in the state of Uttaranchal. It borders China to the North and Nepal to the South. The landscape is take your breath away, bring tears to your eyes beautiful. The Ashram sits on a rise overlooking the Yamuna River and an extremely wide (2 football fields) river basin of polished rock. Cows, goats, donkey and horses graze in the lush fields boarding the basin and drink from the pristine waters of the Yamuna. Across the basin lies a small village rising above green fields and protected on three sides by the mountain range.

If it weren't for the view I might not have made it! The schedule here is rigorous:

4:30 - 5:30 am - Meditation
6:30 am - Breakfast
7:00 am - Seva (Service)
9:00 - 10:00 am - Meditation
11:00 - 12:00 pm - Satsang
12:00 pm - Lunch
3:30 - 4:30 pm - Meditation
4:45 pm - Tea
6:30 - 7:30 pm - Meditation
8:00 pm - Dinner

Besides all the meditation we also take our meals on the floor and by day 3 my knees were groaning. No toilet paper allowed. Bucket baths only. Hot water available at 6:30am only. No laundry service. Please wash your clothes in the dirty canal water that the entire village uses across the street. Oh my God, I'm paying for this! But I must admit that once I settled into a routine, including smuggling toilet paper into the bathroom, I quite enjoyed the place.

Miss you all. Sending you Light and Love.

Sounds good/awful. I love your qualified verdict: "I quite enjoyed the place" [that "I'm paying for"!!] Your smile looks a wee bit forced, but for all that---it sounds as if the beauty of the landscape is beyond words.

I still marvel at your wordsmithing. I hope you continue writing when you get home. You have an incredibe way with words--arranging them in a manner that is short, sweet, strong, and draws the reader in--just amazing.

There are two sides to a coin.On my first visit my feelings were similar. But come again if you are a sincere seeker of truth this is the right place. You will fall in love with the place with all its rules and regulations. Anyone desirous of going there can take a train to Dehradun from Delhi and a taxi to the ashram or bus to vikasnagar. I highly recommend anyone who is a sincere seeker to pay a visit if you come to India.
